What’s different about a small, local school

We have one location and one director. Savanna Graham owns the school, runs it every day, and answers the phone. If you have a question about your child, you’re talking to the person who makes the decisions.

We top out at 80 kids across five rooms. Our calendar follows UD’s holiday schedule, which helps a lot of our UD families. Breakfast and afternoon snack come out of our own kitchen, and the kids get outside every day on our field under the old beech tree or in the garden.

Big chains have their upsides, like lots of locations. The right fit really depends on your family. Tour both, ask each one the same questions, and go with your gut. Here’s the checklist we’d use.

Why we started Newark Nature School

We’re a working family, just like yours. When our daughter went to a big corporate daycare, she didn’t have a name tag on her cubby for weeks. We brought it up with her teacher every day, then the director, then the owner. It finally got done when we told them we’d print one and hang it up ourselves.

We never want a family to feel like their kid is just another cog in the machine. If something is bugging you, tell us and we’ll take care of it ASAP.
