Toddlers and twos at Newark Nature School

The Toddler Room (12 to 24 months) is all about first words, moving, and making things. Finger painting, music, story time, and a lot of running around. When your child says a new word or takes a new step, you’ll see it in the Brightwheel app.

The Twos Room (24 to 36 months) works on new words, colors and shapes, blocks, and pretend play. They also start doing more for themselves, like putting on a jacket, cleaning up, and using words to ask for things.

If you’re potty training, we’ll do it the same way you do at home. We go at your child’s pace.

Toddlers get messy. That’s part of the fun. Before you pick up, we wash hands and faces, wipe noses, and change clothes if we need to. You get your kid back clean.

A typical day

• Morning. Play while friends show up, then breakfast from our kitchen.
• Circle time. Songs, a story, and this week’s nature theme.
• Activities. Art, blocks, sensory bins, and word games from the Brightwheel curriculum.
• Outside. Running around, balls, and rocking boats on our field.
• Lunch and rest. Lunch from home, then nap time.
• Afternoon. Snack, more play, and back outside before pickup.
